The Teacher’s Calling: A Journey of Faith and Purpose
On a bright sunny day in the heritage province of Ilocos Sur, a beautiful little sunshine was born. She was from a catholic family and was named after the saint Joan De Dios which was associated on the exact date of her birthday, March 8, 1988. While Joan Tacud-Regua was growing up, she attended a Baptist Bible Church where she learned to study God’s word and practice Christian living. This Bible Church was used by the Creator to teach her build her faith and relationship with Him. Moreover, ever since she can remember, she had dreamed of becoming a teacher; it was a calling that echoed deep within her soul, a purpose that she held close to her heart.
However, as she pursued her dream to become a teacher, her journey wasn’t easy. She was challenged by financial constraints that she had to supplement her income by singing in the university choir and performing outside school for some economic reasons. Not only that, but she also had to manage her time in order to maintain her position as a Dean’s Lister. Her college journey tested her resilience and determination in reaching her goal. Joan was so committed to her dream that she did not give up on any challenges until she was able to get the teaching degree she’s dreamed of.
When she finally entered the classroom as the candle who lights up the students’ educational path, she again had to face day-to-day trials in managing the students’ behavior. In addition, she had so much in her plate that she also had to deal with the overwhelming extra clerical work and assignments. There were moments when Joan felt utterly drained, wondering how she would muster the strength to continue. She was like a child who was seeking for her father’s advice when she stood up and opened her bible, and there she read a verse that says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”. This bible verse reminded her the reason why she wanted to be a teacher in the first place.
Joan believed that her calling to be a teacher was her ministry, a way of honoring the Lord. She saw her work as an opportunity to serve both her students and the divine higher power that guided her. In every opportunity she gets, she always gives back the praises and glory to the Lord. She uses her profession to honor Him, and that certain trait that she possesses makes her one of the best teacher. She concluded that it was by God's grace and divine intervention that she persevered.
Joan Tacud-Regua continued to teach wholeheartedly, knowing that she was not only serving her students but also serving the Lord, who had placed her in this field with an ultimate reason and purpose. She became a blessing not only to her students, but also to her co-teachers and workmates. She understood that her path in teaching had a higher purpose. It was a blessing in countless ways, and her faith in her calling remained unshaken. Joan's journey as a teacher was not just a profession; it was a calling, a ministry, and a profound source of fulfillment in her life.
